Smyth extends sympathy to the family and friends of Gay Byrne

“I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Gay’s family and many friends at this sad time.

 

“Gay’s contribution to the Arts in Ireland is immeasurable. As a much-loved presenter his insightful discussions on the issues of the day were unparalleled.

 

“He enjoyed a long and distinguished broadcasting career and his is a household name. His viewers and listeners tuned-in in their hundreds of thousands to hear his voice and they were never disappointed.

 

“He will forever remain deeply embedded into the history of broadcasting in Ireland and will always be known as a man of courage and conviction.

 

“My thoughts are with Kathleen and their family and wide circle of friends at this sad time

 

“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
