Deputy Smyth commented, “This scheme has come to light following a number of representations to my offices regarding changes to Stamp Duty processes in the past 18 months. I believe a lot of people may not be aware that this scheme exists. As one way to secure housing those in a position to do so have built homes on family land or plots purchased locally. There are significant development levies and other associated costs to this process.
“With this in mind I would encourage eligible applicants to apply for the Residential Development Stamp Duty Refund Scheme. This is a scheme operated by Revenue and may result in two thirds of stamp duty being refunded.
“There are a number of conditions to the scheme and I have been assisting constituents with this process. I would strongly encourage people to investigate the scheme and, if possible, apply,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
