Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Niamh Smyth, has said greater capacity is needed on Bus Éireann expressway services as they are oversubscribed on the Letterkenny to Dublin route.
She explained, “I have contacted the National Transport Authority and Bus Éireann seeking additional services on the expressway routes coming through our constituency.
“I have been engaging with the family of one lady, an 84-year-old who was trying to board a bus to attend a medical appointment in the Mater Hospital, Dublin. The bus arrived into Emyvale and this lady was told the bus was full and that she would have to wait for the next one. This was not due for another two hours.
“This incident happened this week. When schools and colleges are off. There is less of a demand on services during the summer months, yet people are being turned away.
“Bus Éireann need to look at this problem. We are limited in our public transport options, so the ones we do have, we need to ensure they are adequately resourced,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
