Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Niamh Smyth has discussed plans for a large scale Multi-sports Facility for county Cavan with Minister for Sports Shane Ross.
Commenting, Deputy Niamh Smyth says, “Minister Ross has received an application by Cavan County Council only yesterday which if successful will see this project move to design stage. I have been contacted by a number of sports enthusiasts across all disciplines who say this facility is badly needed for the county. A feasibility study has been carried out for this facility and a number of sites have been identified.”
“I spoke with the Minister only last week on this and the application for Stream 1 funding has been submitted as of yesterday under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) which has at least €100 million available to groups across the country.”
“This facility once built would include four pitches, one 4G pitch for Gaelic, Soccer and Rugby, Basketball Courts, Hockey courts, facilities for badminton, tennis, and athletics etc. Every sport you could possibly imagine will be catered for here.”
“It’s envisaged that €20 million will see this project completed. I will be meeting the Minister Shane Ross and speaking to him again on this matter to impress upon him the need to provide county Cavan and it’s sportspeople with the multi-sports facility that they deserve.”
“I would like to compliment our local authority Cavan County Council on leading the charge on this fantastic opportunity for our county. This can only compliment the wonderful work of our clubs and County Board,” Smyth concluded.
