Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Niamh Smyth TD has welcomed news that recruitment has commenced for additional staff which should ease delays at Cavan General Office. Deputy Smyth was commenting as the recruitment process to fill this vacancy commenced on February 18th.
Deputy Smyth said “I have repeatedly raised this issue with the Minister for Health. The HSE have left this post vacant for over two years. It is welcome recruitment has begun and important the new hire is in place as soon as possible.
“I first raised this issue back in 2017 when my office was contacted by a number of people expressing concern about delays in the registration service. Parents are queuing for hours on end to register births, and even then, the backlog is resulting in delays in the issuing of birth certs, which in turn is having implications on parents who need the document to qualify for child benefit and other supports.
“I will be continuing to liaise with the HSE on this matter to ensure that this position is filled without delay. The fact that the issue has been allowed to permeate is completely unacceptable and has led to inexcusable stress and anxiety for parents,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
