Fianna Fáil TD and Spokesperson for Art and Heritage, Niamh Smyth is urging Music Education Partnerships, locally based groups of people and organisations, led by an Education and Training Board or Local Authority to apply for participation in the Music Generation programme.

Music Generation is Ireland’s National Music Education Programme that transforms the lives of children and young people through access to high quality performance music education in their locality.

“This investment in funding will enable many to come together to establish sustainable music programmes in their communities and support Music Generation’s expansion into new areas between now and 2021. Music Generation is moving towards its next exciting phase of development,” added the Deputy

“Positive musical experience impacts the future development of our children and young people, who stand to gain huge benefit from music education, particularly in musical performance.

“Music is such a vital aspect of our country’s cultural history and we must continually support the stimulation and development of the Arts in Ireland. Engagement with musical instruments promotes creativity and self-expression while supporting the musical community in Ireland to continue to flourish through generations.

“I encourage all those who wish to get involved, to register their interest in applying to Music Generation by Friday February 17th, 2017. The closing date for completed applications is Wednesday, May 31st 2017. If any locally based groups need assistance in applying for this programme please feel free to contact my office at 042 9666666, “concluded Deputy Smyth.

Music Generation will host two free general information sessions on the following dates –

Tuesday 24th January 2017, 12 noon
National Concert Hall, Dublin

Thursday 26th January 2017, 12 noon – 2pm
