Preferred site identified for new Primary Care Centre
Fianna Fáil Deputy Niamh Smyth has received confirmation from the HSE to a Parliamentary Question submitted by her, that the Primary Care Centre in Carrickmacross is expected to be in place by mid-2019.
Deputy Smyth commented, “The HSE have confirmed that following a lengthy advertising campaign, a number of submissions by members of the public have been received by the HSE in an effort to identify a location for this centre in the town of Carrickmacross. I understand that following Stage two and three a preferred provider and site has now been identified.”
“This is great news for Carrickmacross town. It will form an integral part of healthcare going forward in the South Monaghan Town.”
“As many people will know all primary care centres house a GP and community nursing teams and centres offer extra services, including Dental, Occupational therapy, Physiotherapy, Social work, Speech & language, Home help, Mental health, Counselling and advice on Nutrition – to name but a few.”
Deputy Smyth continued, “The HSE have informed me that they will be hoping to issue a letter of intent shortly to the preferred site owner. It’s expected that all building works on this project will be complete in the second quarter of 2019.”
Deputy Smyth concluded, “I would again like to emphasise, as per my previous statement on this centre, that forward planning on this scale of a project is essential. I refer to the Monaghan Primary Care Centre and the Killeshandra Primary Care Centre when I say this. We see that “design challenges” are being faced in Monaghan for the €9 million euro project, while I have been informed by the HSE that there will be more clarity on the provision of the Primary Care Centre in Killeshandra in the New Year. I will continue to raise these issues on behalf of constituents.”
