29 projects to benefit from CLÁR funding in County Monaghan – Smyth 

Niamh March 2015Over €850,000 allocated to projects in Cavan- Monaghan under CLÁR

Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan has welcomed the news that 62 projects within her Constituency, which include safety measures at schools and to enhance community facilities, have been allocated funding under CLÁR 2016. €8.24 million euro has been allocated to 651 projects nationwide under CLÁR 2016. 

Commenting Deputy Niamh Smyth said, “Monaghan has received €356,440 for 29 projects. These consist of community facilities, schools, playgrounds, public parks and roads. There were a number of projects that I would have liked to receive further funding but unfortunately this wasn’t the case. Next time I would like to see a greater emphasis on these.”

In Cavan, €498,184 was allocated for 33 projects consisting of safety enhancement works at schools, 6 new playgrounds and upgrades to existing playgrounds in the county.”

CLÁR is a targeted investment programme which aims to provide funding for small infrastructural projects in rural areas that have experiences significant depopulations.

The fund was reopened in October by Minister of State for Regional Economic Development Michael Ring TD and funding is being provide under these three measures – Safety package for schools/community facilities; Outdoor Play Facilities – Enhancement Scheme/support for the development of Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and local Access Roads.

Monaghan

Deputy Smyth outlined some of the projects to benefit in County Monaghan under this scheme, “In Monaghan 21 schools and community facilities will see safety enhancements take place under CLÁR. Four outdoor play facilities will also receive over €86,000 funding from the Department. Monaghan County Council will contribute over €20,000 towards these projects.”

“A CLÁR allocation of €9,600 along with €2,400 from Monaghan County Council will see new equipment being purchased for people with disabilities at Ballybay Town Playpark. €36,300 provided byt CLÁR and the local authority will see new equipment purchased for Scotshouse Village Park. €10,000 will also be invested to upgrade trails and footpaths and Billy Fox Memorial Park in Carrickmacross, while €50,000 has been allocated to improve the outdoor play facilities of the playground at Ardbannagher in Glaslough.”

“€6,000 will be spent to improve access to the penal cross at Bragan Mountain, Slieve Beagh, Emyvale and €12,000 will be invested in improving local access to the Mass Rock. Emy Lake has been allocated €25,000 to improve access to this wonderful amenity which the community take care of so well yearly. Meanwhile, €38,000 has been given by CLÁR and the Council to Clontibret Church of Ireland to provide a carpark here which is the access point to the ‘Battle of Clontibret’ site.”

Deputy Smyth continued, “21 schools and community facilities will benefit from funding for various works. Clontibret Community hall has received €25,000 for public lighting. New pedestrian crossings will be erected at Lisdoonan National School, Carrickmacross; Scoil Phadraig, Corduff; Scotshouse Village, Clones. €22,000 has been allocated to each project, respectively.”

“St Patrick’s National School, Clara, Emyvale and Knockconan National School have been allocated €2000 respectively for upgrade of road markings to enhance safety at the schools. Meanwhile, Scoil Phadraig, Corduff, Carrickmacross; Scoil Ath Na Bh-Fearcon, Castleblayney; Scoil Naisiunta Cholmcille, Blackstaff; Scoil Naom Padraig, Oram; Scoil Maisiunta Blaithin Iosa, Magheracloone have all been granted €1000 funding under this scheme for works on upgrading road markings on approach to the school.”

“€30,000 has been allocated towards at carpark at Maghernery National School in Smithborough. €30,000 has also been allocated toward safety lights at Newbliss National School. €7,000 has been allocated for safety signage at Knockatallon Village

St Patrick’s National School, Broomfield; Naomh Micheal, Donaghmoyne; and Scoil Naomh Deagha, Inniskeen; will also receive €1000 to carry out safety works at their schools. Deravoy National School in Emyvale has also received €6,000 in funding for the installation of ramps on the approach roads to and from the school. Tydavnet National School have received €14,000 towards the purchase of speed safety signs, while €8,000 has also been assigned to Lisdoonan National School in Carrickmacross for speed safety signs.”

Deputy Smyth concluded, “This funding has to be welcomed however I am very disappointed that Scoil Cholmcille in Blackstaff, Carrickmacross did not receive more money for safety works at the school. This is something that has been highlighted to me by the Principal Mark McEntee and by concerned parents. I will continue to press this matter with the relevant officials. ”
