Fianna Fáil councillor and Cathoirleach of the Bailieborough – Cootehill Municipal district, Cllr Niamh Smyth has confirmed that €107,000 has been allocated as part of the Roads Programme 2015 for road works on the Cavan road from Main Street Bailieborough to Bailieborough Foundry.
“The road surface approaching the town is a disgrace and most unfair to motor tax payers and to local businesses who are trying to attract customers to the main street. I am delighted that this money has been allocated to address the poor road surface approaching the town from the Cavan road. I have also requested that Cavan County Council’s Road Design Team would investigate and source funding for a pedestrian crossing that will facilitate parents and children accessing the Model School, those using the walkway around the town lake and students from Bailieborough Community School.” stated Cllr Smyth.
Cllr Smyth is also encouraging Cavan County Council to enhance existing local amenities in Bailieborough. She stated “At last week’s Municipal District meeting I raised a motion calling on Cavan County Council’s Gateway staff to work on lowering the stone wall on the Cavan road to develop the town lake as an attractive amenity for local people. I am working to progress the By-Laws to prevent the abuse of alcohol in public which currently is causing an annoyance and nuisance to local residents. I hope that the new By-Laws will be on public display in the local library within the next few weeks”
